Visit to Asheville

My sweet sis and her family were visiting "home" from West Virginia this week, so Duane and I flew up to see them. It was a murky but pleasant flight.

Duane took the rental car and visited his folks while I had some "quality time" with my sister!

We had lunch with her family, then just the two of us went to a couple of health food stores to stock up on some vegan food items.

This is just a photo I snapped why we were at a red light in Biltmore....what a pretty part of the the city!

We had a great visit with the rest of the family - this is Connor, my first grand-nephew getting his shoes on for a "walk-about".

We walked all the way down to the river, to one of our old swimming holes.  He's quite the ham!

Then, of course, there was a cook-out.  There's always a cookout at Mom's house!  Very yummy!

And before you knew it, the visit was over!

Leaving the Asheville Airport, these Marine trainer jets were parked beside our Mooney. Never know what you'll find at the airport!

And we had another murky but pleasant flight home.

Lazy Susan's

I threw a bunch of year-old wildflower seeds out under the oak tree early this spring. Didn't really think much would sprout...but was surprised to see these!

Cute kitties

Since Robert is staying with us for a few weeks while he decides what to do about moving into a new apartment, we're enjoying the silly kitties he brought with him to the guest room!

They're named using characters from Alice in Wonderland ---- Ches (Cheshire cat) is a boy.

And Alice herself!!

They are sweet little kitties !

NC HB 1161

I was driving to the Asheboro airport the other day and saw these guys at an intersection.....funny to see someone carrying a fake pot plant!!

If you're in favor of legalization - call your congressman!

We had the kids for a fun evening on Father's day....very relaxing!

NC Aviation Museum Fly-in

A picture perfect day for the annual Asheboro Fly-in!

Walked thru the museum (NC Aviation Museum).  This is our friend Bobby Cox's custom "Cox Hawk" that he has allowed the museum to display for a while.  He's still flying - but mostly in his Super Cub.

Off to the "pilot's lounge"  (just the corner of a hangar) for a free lunch.  All I could really eat there was a slaw dog and some cute cookies.  (Everything else had meat).

A really good turn out...they had planes parked all over the place.

The P-51 is always a crowd pleaser!

And before you knew it, it was time to head home!!

Belated B-day present

Diane and Pat visited today with a little belated b-day pressie!!

I didn't have any squash or veggie to grill, but I had some shrimp we picked up in Beaufort a while ago.....tossed with some Old Bay it was yummy!  (I grilled some salmon for Duane separately to keep from contamination!)

Tomatoes and sharing a little garden soil

Our little garden plot has just gotten so shady that it really struggles to produce.

So this year, I asked Dick and Lindy if they could spare a little garden space for me.....since I usually just scarf up all their extra veggies, I thought I would actually do some of the work.

So, I got several varieties - grape, cherry, Beefsteak and German Johnson.  Dick had planted many plants several weeks ago, so his are MUCH bigger than mine.

His are to the left - mine are barely visible to the right.  I've since put up cages around mine but forgot to snap a picture!  I can taste the yummy tomatoes already!!

P.S. don't ya just love that automatic watering system!!!

Pretty Siler City Airport Photo

Yesterday, I flew the Mooney to work...that's pretty unusual these days. In the evening upon departing, I snapped a few photos of the lovely mowing operation in progress!

Wine bottle cheese platter

One of our Friday night buddies made us a cheese platter out of one of our empty wine bottles.  They have a kiln that they use in the after-school art camp business.

Pretty cool!!!  Just a melted-flat wine bottle!

Amaryllis

It's hard to believe that my amaryllis bulbs made it through the tough cold winter this year!  It got down in the single digits at least 2 times....so I expected to loose some of my plants that are more "tender".

I was surprised to see several amaryllis shoots (some from Grandma's and some from Wayne Andrews, thanks!)

And on the other side of the house, I'm proud to say that my deer deterrent is working wonders!!  Last year these hostas were eaten down to nubs!
